A welcome proposal
FIVE months before next year’s presidential, congressional and local elections, a presidentiable would do well to announce the possible members of his/her Cabinet.
This is to enable the Filipino people, through the more than 62 million registered voters, to vote wisely when they go to the polls on May 9, 2022, according to political analysts.
The farmers and fishermen, who comprise the bulk of the population, want to know the presidential candidate’s possible secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
And certainly, the country’s growing army of workers, including the millions of overseas Filipino workers, also wants to know what to expect if the presidentiable wins next year.
“Ngayon pa lang ay kailangang ipaalam na sa taumbayan, lalong-lalo sa mga botante, kung sinu-sino ang bubuo ng kanyang official family,” said a COVID-19-displaced janitor.
“Maiiwasan pa ang balimbingan pagkatapos ng eleksyon kung alam na ng publiko kung sinu-sino ang mga kakampi ng isang kumakandidatong Pangulo,” added a new voter.
In the past, there were Cabinet members who often found themselves on the wrong side of the incumbent President on several high-profile and controversial isssues.
Today, there are now suggestions from various quarters that it’s time to ask the presidentiables to disclose the names of those they intend to appoint to Cabinet positions.
The problem is: Are these prospective Cabinet members willing to show their support to a particular candidate this early?
Kasi baka kapag natalo ang kanilang manok sa Mayo 9, 2022 eh may balak silang mangibang bakod.
