THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently arrested three individuals for illegal transport of quarry minerals in Barangay Candauai, Dumaguete City.

NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric B. Distor identified the arrested suspects as John Callao, Randy Mapa, and Joseph Callao.

Operatives of the NBI-Dumaguete District Office (NBI-DUMDO) were patrolling Barangay Candauai on April 28, 2021 and chanced upon two cargo vehicles travelling and loading sand and gravel.

The vehicle was flagged down and the suspects were asked to present their transport receipts. However, they showed expired delivery receipts as these were dated March 15 and 22, 2021.

The suspects were transporting about 10 cubic meters of minerals with an estimated value of P20,000.

The local government unit’s policy required everyone transporting quarry minerals with updated delivery receipts.

The suspects were arrested and presented for inquest proceedings before the Prosecutor’s Office of Dumaguete City for violation of Philippine Mining Act.
