PNP-DEG agents strike anew in war on drugs
SEVEN more top drug targets including two senior citizens were arrested and nearly P2 million worth of shabu were seized by agents of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group in a recent string of anti-narcotics operations, the Journal Group learned on Sunday.
“This is part of our intensified campaign against illegal drugs in the country as ordered by PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco Marbil,” said PNP-DEG director, Brigadier Gen. Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr.
The official said that three of the suspects who were tagged as ‘high-value targets’ yielded an estimated 15 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth at least P102,000, several drug paraphernalia, a loaded home-made caliber .22 revolver and the buy-bust money during a sting in Barangay Lerma in Naga City in Camarines Sur 5:30 p.m. Friday.
He identified the three as Nicolas Abese,62; his son Nicholas Jr.,38; and Josefina dela Rosa,66. Members of the DEG Special Operations Unit 5, with the help of the Naga City Polcie Station and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the successful operation.
Another ‘HVT’ identified as 38-year old Joseph Ursal yielded 55 grams of shabu worth P374,000 during a buy-bust operation in Bgy. Labangon in Cebu City last Saturday.
A 5th identified as Jeffer Moralde alias ‘Tanggol,’ 30, was arrested in an entrapment operation in Justo Ramonal Street in Bgy. 32, Cagayan de Oro City last Tuesday.
The suspect yielded 12 pieces of heat-sealed plastic sachets containing 51 grams of shabu worth P346,000 and the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill.
The 6th identified as Virgilio Años Jr. alias ‘Bady,’ a 30-year old ‘high-value individual’ in Central Visayas yielded four plastic sachets containing around 100 grams of shabu worth P680,000 during a sting in Bgy. Subangdako in Mandaue City, Cebu last Wednesday.
The 7th identified as Bobby Barredo,52, also an ‘HVT’ was arrested during a buy-bust operation in Bgy. Lumbia in Estancia, Iloilo last Thursday. Confiscated from the suspect’s possession were 58 grams of shabu worth P394,000 and the buy-bust money.
All arrested suspects are now facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Brig. Gen. Bartolome.
