INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos lauded San Pedro City for putting primacy on disaster preparedness and resiliency with the inauguration of its P400-million City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Office Building and Operations Center.

The new San Pedro CDRRM building is the first Starlink internet-powered LGU Building in Laguna. It is equipped with a video wall, an emergency management system, eye-in-the-sky CCTV set up and solar panels.

“Isa ito sa nakita kong pinakamagandang CDRMM na opisina kaya nagpapasalamat ako for this kind of project,” he said.

Abalos added: “This facility stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the city government for the welfare and safety of its constituents.”

Abalos graced the inauguration of the CDRRM center located at Rizal St., Brgy. Poblacion.

The DILG secretary underscored the importance of having a modern CDRRM office which will be responsible in disaster mitigation and response especially since the Philippines is earthquake and typhoon-prone.

“Isipin natin kung nagkaroon ng malakas na lindol, walang kuryente, walang tubig, sinong hahanapin? Sinong magko-command?” he said.

The DILG chief added that the modern San Pedro CDRRM building can still operate in such a scenario as it is equipped with a generator and high-tech communications facility.

Abalos explained there is also a new phenomenon called shear line which occurs when hot and cold air combine and bring a huge amount of rainfall. Such an incident, he said, happened in Mindanao recently.

For his part, San Pedro Mayor Art Mercado thanked Secretary Abalos for his support of the project which marks the fulfillment of his dream to make San Pedro the top smart city in CALABARZON with data-driven and tech-empowered governance.
