NCRAA: Sansano lifts UL past Bestlink

JHOMEL Sansano led the way as the University of Luzon edged Bestlink College of the Philippines, 112-106, in a high-scoring thriller in the 30th NCRAA (National Capital Region Athletic Association) basketball tournament at the Bestlink gymnasium in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Sansano exploded for 46 points on 16-of-25 from the field, while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out five assists in just 28 minutes of play for coach BJ Vidal.

Datu Borja added 17 points while Ventax Begenio contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Tigers’ victory.

Joshua Vidal and Art Maravilla spearhead the scoring for the Kalasag of coach Edwin Punio.

Vidal finished with 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor and eight rebounds in 35 minutes of action while Maravilla had 22 points and nine rebounds.

Julito Estoya added 17 points, followed by Aaron Reyna with 15 points and Leonard Aguilar with13 points.

Reyna also had 11 assists and five rebounds.

With the score tied at 99-all with 2:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, both teams engaged in an exchange of baskets before the Golden Tigers seized control and pulled away.

Meanwhile, the St. Dominic College of Asia rode on the hot hands of Ivan Ares to post an 83-69 win over the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna.

Ares scattered 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field in 24 minutes of action while Didoy Proel added 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for coach Bong Dela Cruz.

Edward Daquioag contributed with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists while Edward Clarete chipped in with 10 points.

Jeff Gelamucho led the Laguna-based Pirates of coach Michael Sydiangco with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and nine rebounds in 32 minutes of playing.

Shakur Abogado added 11 points and Ivan Landicho and Johann Samson chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.
