Camp Olivas is now flood-free, cites DPWH’s Villar for P91M fund

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga- The once perennial flooding in this PNP regional headquarters is now a thing of the past after Sec. Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways initiated recently the clearing of clogged canals and improvement of the highway.

Aside from the sprawling camp, the DPWH also improved the usually foooded Camp Olivas highway that causes severe floodings in the area every rainy season. A total of P91M was allocated by Villar for the said projects.

In a statement, Police Regional Director PBGen. Valeriano De Leon said Sec. Villar directed the improvement of the camp drainage canal and other infrastructures fir the construction of it, saying this has become possible thru the DPWH-PNP Convergence program and the support of PRO 3 stakeholders.

In citing Villar, Gen. De Leon said “The men and women of PRO 3 are truly grateful for the untiring support of DPWH and other partner agencies. As we share the joy of this milestone, we also embrace the shared vision and commitment to safeguarding quality assurance of peace and order of the region.”

Newsmen leanred that top officials DPWH led by Secretary Villar inspected Friday ongoing infrastructure projects at the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) Headquarters in Camp Olivas.

Among the projects inspected were the 500-lineal meter construction of access road made of portland cement concrete pavement with drainage flume.

Vilar said, “The PhP23 million road construction project will create considerable impact not only to the community within the camp, but also to the public with significant reduction in the travel time to facilitate effective and credible police service and speedy response when needed.”

According the Villar, the road improvement project will increase the capacity of the road section in the area, which in effect will facilitate the smooth exchange and transport from and to the other government agencies and will be part of the plan to support local businesses in the area.

Also renovation works are likewise ongoing for the Rektang Konek – Aksyon Agad, Regional Headquarters Support Unit and Regional Barracks Buildings.

With a total cost of PhP68.712 million, the project has an overall accomplishment of 42% and will be completed by 3rd quarter of 2021.

“The reconstruction of existing building facilities will improve the overall condition of the headquarters, ensure safety and security, and create a conducive working environment for the Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel and other occupants,” Villar said.

The projects are expected to be finished by June.
