Rep. Tulfo to push for NFA rice selling in public markets
ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo will propose to Congress to allow the selling of NFA rice to public markets again.
“Magbenta muli ng NFA rice sa mga palengke para maging affordable ang bigas sa lahat,” Tulfo said, adding that, “ito lang ang tanging paraan para bumaba ang presyo ng bigas sa mga pamilihan”.
“Noong may NFA rice pa sa palengke, mas mura sila ng P5 to P10 per kilo kumpara sa regular commercial rice”, according to Tulfo, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.
He said, “pero para mangyari ito, kailangan na talagang ibasura itong RA 11203 o Rice Tariffication Law”.
According to the said law, the National Food Authority (NFA) is prohibited from directly selling rice to the people, but it can just store rice as a buffer stock of the country for the time of emergency.
“May mga batas kasi tayo na di na naangkop sa panahon kaya kailangan ng rebyuhin o ibasura”, the lawmaker added. He furthered, “kagaya ngayon, mahal ang bigas at naghahanap ang tao ng murang bigas…and its only NFA that can deliver that”.
