OF the 416 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) recently released by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), 17 were from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City.

The PDLs were released for various reasons, including the expiration of their maximum sentence with good conduct time allowance, parole, acquittal, and the expiration of their maximum sentence. They were freed under Department Order 953.

BuCor said 14 of the 416 PDLs were released from the IPPF and are bound to reunite with their loved ones upon release.

The majority of the released PDLs had deductions on their sentence based on Republic Act 10592 or Good Conduct Time Allowance Law by showing good behavior and participating in the reformation programs of the Bureau.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and officer-in-charge Gregorio Catapang Jr. witnessed the culminating activity, which is part of BuCor’s efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate PDLs back into society.

As an attached agency of the Department of Justice, BuCor is administratively supervised by the DOJ.
