PHILIPPINE National Police Director for Intelligence Major General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. on Monday handed over P1,930,000 in reward money to 12 informants who provided the PNP with credible information which led to the capture of the same number of most wanted persons in the country this year.

The tipsters who wore ski masks and sunglasses to protect their identities received their cash reward from the PNP Directorate for Intelligence chief during simple rites held at the PNP Intelligence Training Group headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Major Gen. Acorda said that the 12 gave them the reliable information which resulted in the capture of 12 most wanted men in the country identified as Julius Cesar Capalihan, John Rodolfo Labasan, Rafael Ofiaza, Rogelio Tacal, Ramil Taneo, Rey Alejandro, Kiang Balimbingan, Esmael Sanday, Ranel Sua, Roger Ora, Jimmy Platero and Erwin Alvaro.

The official said that the 12 were wanted for non-bailable heinous crimes which include murder, rape, carnapping with homicide, attempted murder, frustrated murder, statutory rape, kidnapping with serious illegal detention and violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Different regional trial courts across the country issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against the suspects who have long been in hiding until the informants provided the PNP-DI with accurate information which was validated by its intelligence agents resulting in the arrest of the 12.

Major Gen. Acorda said they have asked the reward claimants to wear appropriate protective attire including ski masks, sunglasses and caps to conceal their identity and secure them from expected reprisal of the arrested suspects.

The PNP-DI director added that granting of monetary reward to persons (except government employees) who are instrumental to the arrest, surrender or death on legitimate operations of most wanted persons is one of the programs of the PNP headed by General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. which has been seen a very effective way of arresting notorious wanted persons in the country.

Maj. Gen. Acorda encouraged the public anew to continue supporting and helping the PNP account for wanted criminals in the country by providing them with information which will earn them instant money once the wanted persons who are covered with bounties offered by the Department of Interior and Local Government are arrested.
