Vote them out in 2022

THERE is a ‘specter’ that would be hounding the 2022 national elections. And it would not be the likely return to Malacañang of another ‘Marcos’—former senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong/BBM’ Marcos Jr.

What we are referring here is the possible ‘unpleasant return’ to power of those who conspired— and personally benefited—in the removal, via impeachment, of Chief Justice Renato Corona in 2012.

Corona died on April 29, 2016 of heart failure, his doctors declared, although it is more accurate to say that what actually killed him was the ordeal he had to go through before, during and after his impeachment trial, a victim of the vindictive regime of Pres. Noynoy Aquino.

Five years thence since his death, more and more gory, abhorrent, nay, even criminal, details have come out that can only lead one to conclude that his removal from office is another dark period in our modern history where the rule of law was again trampled upon by our political elite and their stooges in both chambers of Congress, in the mainstream media and ‘civil society’ for the personal benefit of one ruling family: the Aquinos and the personal amusement of one president, Pres. Noynoy Aquino.

In other words, it is another shameful chapter in our history; be that as it may, it is one chapter we should always remember and draw lessons upon.

The events of 2012 should be quite fresh in our memory, as it happened barely nine years ago.

And if we are to make right the shameful, disgraceful and tyrannical conduct of our elected political leaders that tarred our democracy and the rule of law during that time, what we have to do is to remember the names of those who voted to convict Corona—not on the basis of his guilt but in exchange for political favors from Pres. Noynoy and yes, more congressional pork barrel.

We should remember their names and make sure that we do not vote for them anymore or in any other elections for that matter.

In doing so, Filipinos would not only be washing their guilt and complicity over the criminal removal of Corona but we would also be giving justice to the man.

And yes, by not voting those who conspired to remove Corona, especially those now seeking to return to the Senate, we would also be removing from the Senate those who polluted its once-upon-a-time “sacred” reputation as a genuine bastion of democracy and the rule of law.

In other words, we would not only be ridding the chamber of political mercenaries but also would be giving the opportunity to other candidates who are ready to take the challenge of repairing the damage these previous office-holders have inflicted on the Senate.
