Trike loaded with children crashes in Cavite, 1 dead

MAGALLANES, Cavite – A tricycle loaded with six passengers, mostly children, on Saturday crashed in Bgy, Tua, this town leaving a 9-year-old girl dead and five others wounded.

Staff Sgt. Armando Gomez of the Magallanes Police Office identified the fatality as Jazz Pontanes of Tanza, Cavite.

The injured were Jazz’s mother, Loida, the 43-year-old woman driving the tricycle; and her passengers Madel Epe, 22; Marino,12; Andrea, 9; and Ezra, 2.

The wounded victims were Loida’s family friends.

They came from an outing in Utod Falls and River in Bgy. Tua when they met the accident at 9:45 a.m on Saturday.

Gomez said the tricycle driven by Loida was traveling the village on their way home when upon reaching the downhill portion of the road, the trike’s brakes malfunctioned.

Loida lost control of the tricycle until they crashed on the side of the road.

Responding members of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Team rushed the victims to San Lorenzo Hospital in Naic, where Jazz was declared dead on arrival.
