A rampant riot involving youngsters that went viral on social media was put to an end following the arrest of eight out-of-school youth in the act of creating disturbance Sunday before dawn in Malabon City.

Malabon acting police chief P/Lt. Col. Aldrin Thompson said he directed Sub-Station-5 commander P/Lt. Zoilo Arquillo and his deputy P/Lt. Fatima Escueta to conduct intensified patrolling along Hasa-Hasa Street in Bgy. Longos, where a rampant riot of youngsters belonging to the rival gang happened during the wee hours of the morning.

At around 3 a.m., while elements of Malabon Police Sub-Station 5 led by P/SSgt. Oliver Santiago, together with the watchmen of Bgy. Longos, were patrolling at the corner of Hasa-Hasa and Langary streets, a riot broke out between the youngsters belonging to rival gangs.

The group of teenagers hurled stones and molotov bombs against each other prompting policemen and barangay watchmen to intervene.

Upon sensing the presence of lawmen, the youngsters involved in the riot immediately scampered in different directions which prompted authorities to give chase.

To evade arrest, eight teenagers whose ages range from 13 to 17 forcibly barged into the house of Wilson John Gilhang, 28, at Block 14 Lot 40, Phase 2 Area 3, Bgy. Longos but they were subsequently arrested by pursuing policemen and barangay officials.

Case investigator P/SSgt. Jeric Tindugan said arresting police officers seized from the youth offenders an improvised molotov bomb and bladed weapon.

Tindugan said all the arrested youth offenders were turned over to Bahay Sandigan which is being administered by the City Social Welfare Department.
