THE sugar shipment from Thailand earlier seized by the Bureau of Customs (Boc) at the Subic Port in Zambales was above board, documents from the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) showed.

The importer, in a statement, said: “Our importation permit is not recycled, it is open for scrutiny. We hold a valid permit and clearance from the Sugar Regulatory Administration.”

The documents include two certificates of clearance addressed to the Bureau of Customs-Port of Subic, a copy of Sugar Order No.3, Series of 2021-2022, and SRA Memorandum Circular 11, which is about the resumption of implementation of Sugar Order 3.

“This is to certify that the imported cane refined sugar from Thailand shipped by Ruamkamlarp Export Co.. Ltd., and consigned to Oro-Agritrade Inc. for the account of ARC Refreshment Corporation…. on board M/V Bangpakaew…. has been cleared by this Office as “C” or reserve sugar as per Sugar Order No.3, Ser4ies of 2021-2022,” read the certification letter addressed to the customs bureau.

The SRA stated the clearance is valid until September 4, 2022.

The sugar shipment was seized by Customs operatives on August 18 at the Subic Port. They also detained the 19 crew members of the ship Bangpakaew. The Thai exporter is listed as Ruamkamlarp Export Co. Ltd.
