Richard Gomez, wife Lucy to switch posts in 2022 polls
COUPLE Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez and Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez will not seek national posts but instead swap positions in 2022 elections.
The Ormoc City government, in a Facebook post, said Richard will run for a congressional seat in the fourth district of Leyte while Lucy will seek the mayoralty post in Ormoc City.
The celebrity couple are part of the official and final lineup of the Ormoc Development Team.
Richard and Lucy led a closed door meeting with the rest of the ODT members at their home in Carlota Hills, Ormoc City on Wednesday night.
“The decision made was on the basic and simple premise – to continue to develop Ormoc City to be a premier city in Region 8,” Gomez said.
“We chose our candidates according to credentials, track record and with a personality that can make a positive difference for our city,” he added.
The Facebook post said those in the political lineup are leaders with integrity, with proven track record, dedicated to progress and committed to help the Ormoc people.
The decision came a week after the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi nominated the Leyte lawmaker as one of their nominees for the Senate.
Lucy is now serving her third and last term in the House of Representatives.
