A LAWMAKER has filed a resolution commending his fellow Bicolano, 9-year-old Bince Rafael Operiano, for his exemplary performance after winning the gold medal in the recently concluded Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship 2022 held in Bangkok, Thailand last November 4 to 13.

Operiano, who hails from Oas, Albay, advanced through nine rounds of the competition in the under-10 category, where he bested 29 contenders from different countries.

Reportedly, Operiano will be conferred the title of National Master when he turns ten years old.

“Saludo po tayo sa ipinamalas na husay at tatag ni Bince. Despite the challenges he and his family experienced such as limited funds and other logistical problems, he did not stop from striving to bring home the championship,” AGRI Party-list Representative Wilbert T. Lee said.

According to Lee, Operiano exhibited strong commitment, steadfast spirit, and pure dedication in bringing pride and honor to the country.

“By winning a trophy and four medals, he has made our country proud and has shown the spirit of Filipino competitiveness and excellence in chess. He deserves to be commended for the honor, recognition, and inspiration he has brought,” Lee stated in his House Resolution (HR) No. 568.

“Si Bince po ay isa lamang sa libo-libo nating talentadong atleta na kailangan ng suporta mula sa gobyerno. Sa sapat na tulong at pagsasanay, marami pang tulad ni Bince ang siguradong makakapag-uwi ng karangalan sa bansa,” he added.

One hundred eighty-one players from 12 countries in Eastern Asia participated in the said chess competition hosted by the Thailand Chess Association.

Declared the overall champion, the Philippines bagged 32 gold, 27 silver, and 22 bronze medals in the said Youth Chess Championships.

“Sa pagtulong kay Bince at sa iba pang atletang Pilipino, mas nagkakalakas sila ng loob at nabibigyan ng insentibo na paunlarin ang talento at ipaglaban ang dangal ng bansa. Sa kanilang tagumpay, Winner Tayo Lahat,” Lee said.
