BACOOR CITY, Cavite – Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla of the second district of Cavite took her “Alagang Ate Lani” battle cry to the halls of Congress, drafting legislation around her advocacies and working towards the completion of centerpiece projects for the City of Bacoor while providing social welfare assistance to her constituents.

In her first 100 days as a legislator, Rep. Mercado-Revilla was the principal author of 29 bills, seven of which addressed issues in education and culture, including HB (House Bill) 02867, which institutionalizes the “One Tablet, One Student Program”, and HB 04568, which institutionalizes blended learning.

“I have always believed that education stands at the root of what will eventually propel our nation to greatness. An educated citizenry is an empowered citizenry, and an empowered citizenry fuels the engine of growth and development,” said Mercado-Revilla.

She added, “Our office is also very intent on supporting our educators, which is why we are working on passing HB 04489, which provides free annual physical checkups for public school teachers, and HB 01893, which grants them a teaching supplies allowance. I am always amazed at the length our teachers go through to provide a good learning experience to our students.”

In her district, Mercado-Revilla has provided educational assistance to 5833 students. She recently started working with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and sponsored 130 scholars in various courses.

Health is another one of Mercado-Revilla’s advocacies, and here she has been a forerunner in the expansion of the Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in the City of Bacoor, proposing to increase its bed capacity through HB 01892.

The one-time mayor has also seen firsthand the critical importance of having a health facility in every city and is batting for accelerating the Philippine health facility development plan through HB 02104.

In her district, Mercado-Revilla has facilitated P1,299,000 worth of medical assistance for indigent patients and spearheaded medical missions in different barangays. Through her office, 1059 individuals have become beneficiaries of the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations and 4300 individuals of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantage/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

Mercado-Revilla is also a member of the Commission on Appointments (CA) and has diligently reviewed the qualifications of every candidate.

She is particularly proud of having been part of the commission that confirmed the appointments of such stellar public servants as Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, Department of Budget Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Flaminiano Pangamdaman, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ma. Esperanza Christina Codilla Frasco, and Ambassador Mylene Garcia-Albano, all of whom are women.
