Radio commentator shot dead in Cebu
A RADIO radio commentator who had just finished his program at station dyRB was shot dead by still unidentified assailants in Bgy. Mambaling, Cebu City.
Police said the victim, Reynante “Rey” Cortes, was shot at 8:57 a. m. Thursday.
Cortes was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center. He suffered gunshot wounds on his arm and chest.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines-Cebu chapter has condemned the killing, saying “attacks against journalists and media workers continue to rise and are being normalized simply for fulfilling our duties as watchdogs of society.”
“We further condemn the culture of impunity that emboldens these perpetrators to commit these crimes,” it added.
