A 64-YEAR-OLD farmer accused of raping his granddaughter at least 39 times in their residence in Sto. Niño, Cagayan has been arrested by local police, Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Steve B. Ludan on Thursday said.
The suspect, a resident of Barangay Lattac, Sto. Niño, Cagayan was arrested last Monday in his hiding place in Piat municipality on the strength of a warrant for 39 counts of rape issued by Judge Edmar Castillo Sr. of the Tuao, Cagayan Regional Trial Court Branch 11.
No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the accused, Ludan said.
According to the Cagayan Valley police director, the suspect was accused of sexually molesting his young granddaughter since March 2018.
To prevent the victim from revealing her ordeal, the suspect reportedly threatened to kill her and her siblings.
Brig. Gen. Ludan however said that in July 2019, the victim finally had the courage to reveal the series of molestations committed on her by the suspect to her grandmother prompting her family to seek assistance from the local police.
Police later filed criminal charges for multiple rape against the suspect and hunted him shortly after the court issued a warrant for his arrest.
Ludan said the suspect was arrested by members of the Piat Municipal Police Station and the Army’s 17th Infantry Battalion. He is now locked up at the Piat police jail.
