A GROUP of policemen in Davao del Norte have found an ingenious way to help women in a remote municipality in the province earn money for their families – develop their skills in making scarves which they could sell in the market.

The project of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11’s Revitalized-Pulis Sa Barangay (R-PSB) in Sitio Kapatagan, Bgy. Gupitan in Kapalong, Davao del Norte has earned praises from different quarters and even Philippine National Police chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar.

It turned out that the R-PSB Sitio Kapatagan members led by Lieutenant Francisco Caslib have helped the Sitio Kapatagan women enhance their scarf-making skills and cultural heritage.

At the same time, the policemen have helped the local women earn a living by selling their made-to-order products to tourists and other nearby residents.

Eleazar lauded the cops for not just promoting Filipino culture but also for helping their kababayans find a means of livelihood.

“Saludo ako sa pagtulong nitong ating mga pulis sa Davao del Norte sa mga naninirahan sa Sitio Kapatagan dahil magandang paraan ito upang maipakita ang angking galing ng ating mga kababayan. Matutulungan pa sila nito na magkaroon ng kabuhayan sa kabila ng pandemya,” Eleazar said.

The R-PSB project is a brainchild of PRO11 director, Brigadier Gen. Filmore B. Escobal in order to help increase the public’s trust and confidence to the local police.

Since last year, R-PSB personnel from the PRO11 have helped build roads, public schools, artesian wells, potable water system and even teach the basics of elementary education to residents of so-called geographically isolated and disadvantageous areas in Southern Mindanao.
