TWO most wanted persons (MWPs) in Southern Mindanao were arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in separate operations in Davao province, PNP Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said on Thursday.

Citing a report from Police Regional Office 11 (PRO11) Director Brigadier Gen. Benjamin H. Silo Jr., the top cop said that one of the suspects was arrested in his hiding place in Davao del Norte on Tuesday.

The suspect, the top 1 regional MWP in Southern Mindanao, is the subject of a warrant of arrest for attempted rape and six counts of sexual abuse, and three counts of acts of lasciviousness in relation to Republic Act (RA) 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law.

The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Zarah Aguisando-Silvosa of the Davao City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 33. A total of P1.6 million in bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the accused.

Silo also reported the arrest of one suspect who claimed to be an “army personnel” when accosted by officers manning a checkpoint in Bgy. Sirawan in Toril District in Davao City 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The official said that the suspect from Bgy. Poblacion in Matalam, North Cotabato, was accosted by officers who were inspecting his vehicle when they saw in plain view his firearms.

The suspect yielded two R4 automatic rifles, four carbine 5.56mm rifles, one cal. .45 pistol with three magazines containing 34 live ammunition and 30 pieces of 5.56mm ammunition.

The suspect failed to present any pertinent gun papers when asked to produce them. His gray Kia Optima was impounded by the Toril Police Station, which is preparing charges for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 against him.
