THE Philippines’ contingent to earthquake-battered Türkey extricated two bodies and a mutilated leg during operations in the country’s southeastern city of Adiyaman on Monday (local time).

In a message to reporters Tuesday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said the human remains were recovered among one of the collapsed buildings in the city’s “Sector N”.

No other details were given regarding the recovered remains.

Philippine rescue teams also conducted assessment checks on “Sector Q” on the same day.

The Philippine contingent is expected to stay in the quake-hit nation for two weeks.

Meanwhile, the OCD said the Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) in Türkey has already set up its field hospital and base camp as of Feb. 11.

The total number of collapsed buildings assessed by the PIAHC urban search and rescue team has reached 20.

On Monday, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) spokesperson Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said Ankara will no longer accept a second contingent from Manila to help in operations in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake.

The Turkish government, however, said the Philippines can send or donate non-food items, he added. Philippine News Agency
