THREE still unidentified gunmen shot and killed a 45-year-old farmer in Siaton, Negros Oriental, early morning Friday in what has been recorded as the latest victim of “senseless killing” in the province.

The victim suffered several gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body and died on the spot at 7:45 a.m. Friday, when the attack took place in Sitio Cangmamok in Barangay Mantiquil.

An initial police investigation showed that the victim and his wife were sitting on the porch of their house in Sitio Cangmamok when at least three unidentified gunmen arrived and shot the farmer without any provocation killing him instantly.

The victim’s wife was unharmed in the attack.

The incident was reported to the Siaton Municipal Police Station by the wife of the victim and the local barangay captain.

Investigators later recovered eight spent cartridges and a slug from a caliber .45 pistol at the scene, which is about 35 kilometers away from the Siaton proper, said Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director Colonel Reynaldo Lizardo.

The motive and identities of the gunmen are still being investigated as of press time, the Negros Oriental Police said in a report sent to Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Brigadier General Jerry Bearis.
