A GROWING number of senators are pushing for to legalize divorce in the Philippines, citing the fact every person deserves a new life and a new chance to be happy and peaceful.

Known as the Bad Boy of Philippine cinema turned Senator, Robin Padilla did not deny his past failed relationships and said it’s about time that the government considers the reality that there are good and bad relationships in many marriages.

Padilla, a neophyte senator said, his pet bill, Divorce Act of the Philippines will give each and every person the right to be happy again in his /her life.

Senator Risa Hontiveros who had pushed for her absolute Divorce bill in the 18th Congress said she will continue this advocacy saying her controversial divorce bill was actually “pro-marraige, pro-family and pro-children.

According to Hontiveros, it is time to consider giving women and children the right to be free from “abusive and loveless relationships” and to be given another chance to live a life.

“It protects children from abuse and rebuilds broken families,” Hontiveros said as she insisted on the need to protect the husband, wife and their children by giving them a chance to live a new life.

In the Senate, Hontiveros and Senator Pia Cayetano had filed bills seeking to institute legal termination of marriages by Philippine courts in the 18th Congress.

Cayetano had filed two other bills seeking the recognition of divorce in the Philippine civil registry if done outside the country, as well as the recognition of the civil effects of Church annulment.
