THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) conducted clearing operations on roads serving as “Mabuhay Lanes” in Sta. Cruz and Tondo in Manila on Tuesday morning.

MMDA Task Force Special Operations (TFSO) and Anti-Colorum Unit head Edison “Bong” Nebrija led the clearing operation along Lacson Avenue and Tayuman Street in Sta. Cruz served as Mabuhay Lanes and cleared the roads of illegal structures, illegally parked vehicles, and illegal vendors.

The Task Force confiscated several mechanical equipment in a vulcanizing shop that blocked the road, dismantled tents put up by barangays, towed several vehicles, including motorcycles, parked unattended, and issued traffic citation tickets to drivers who tried to remove their vehicles illegally parked along Lacson and Tayuman.

The team of Nebrija then proceeded to Yuseco St. and Dagupan Dagupan Ext. in Tondo and towed several vehicles, including a cargo truck and a sport utility vehicle (SUV), and issued citation tickets to several motorcycle riders who were caught without wearing a helmet.

One of the riders who were flagged down without wearing a helmet failed to produce his driver’s license and official registration and receipt of his driven motorcycle, prompting the MMDA team to impound his motorcycle.

The team of Nebrija then moved to Moriones and Capulong Streets before proceeding to Road 10 and started to issue citation tickets to several drivers of private and public vehicles illegally parked along the Mabuhay Lanes.

MMDA Public Information Office head Sharon Gentalian said a total of 55 vehicles had been towed, including 30 motorcycles, six cars, 12 tricycles, one Fuso truck, two taxis, one rescue vehicle, and three utility vehicles, while a total of 178 drivers had been ticketed by the team of Nebrija.
