Man blows up self with grenade during drinking session
A 35-YEAR-OLD electrician who invited his friends to a drinking session allegedly committed suicide by denonating a hand grenade he was holding, killing himself and injuring his three drinking buddies Saturday evening in Makati City.
The electrician, of Blk. 348 Lot 9, Leek St. Brgy. Pembo was declared dead on arrival at Ospital ng Makati while his neighbor Junnie Boy Duhay Lungsod Dizon, 36, is still in critical condition.
Two other victims, identified as Jay Ardeño, 34 ,of Levy Mariano, Brgy. Ususan, Taguig City and Ronnie Mamayabay, 38, of Corn Flower St., Brgy. Pembo are in stable condition.
In his report to Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Kirby John Kraft, Makati police chief P/Col. Edward Cutiyog said the incident happened at around 9:50 p.m. on Blk. 348 while the victims were having a drinking session along Corn Flower St.
Case investigator P/SSgt. John Robert Baligod said that a witness saw the electrician hide a grenade in his body.
At around 7 p.m., the victim told the witness to call their friends who joined drinking session.
The electrician later asked the witness if he wanted to join him in committing suicide while holding a hand grenade, prompting the witness to go home.
A minute later, the witness heard a loud explosion, prompting him to report the incident to the authorities. Personnel of Makati Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD) and Makati Forensic Unit recovered metal fragments and found body tissues in the area.
