EIGHT people were injured while at least 300 families lost their homes in a fire that destroyed over 100 houses Friday in Malabon City.

Malabon Bureau of Fire Protection arson investigator FO3 Jester Banglin said the fire of still undetermined origin broke out at around 10:40 a.m. at the 2nd floor of a house owned by Neri Abagon located along P. Concepcion St. Bgy. Tugatog and quickly spread in adjacent houses mostly made up of light materials.

City Fire Marshal Supt. Eduardo Loon said it took more than six hours for firefighters to control the blaze due to the narrow pathways in the area before it was declared under control at about 4:20 p.m.

Duty police investigators P/SSgt.Michael Oben and P/Cpl. Renz Marlon Baniqued said Malabon police chief P/Col. Joel Villanueva directed police personnel to respond to the fire scene to provide security after impatient residents allegedly tried to grab fire hoses from fire volunteers.

The fire that destroyed more or less P2 million worth of properties was finally put out at around 5 p.m. while affected families were temporarily sheltered at the Bgy. Tugatog covered court.

Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze.
