Laborer stabbed to death over ‘dispute’

A 42-YEAR-OLD construction worker died on the spot after being stabbed by a fellow laborer who was said to have had a long “dispute” inside a house in Sitio Ibaba, Barangay Bucal, Batangas City, the other day.

According to Batangas City Police Station Chief Lt. Col. Dwight F. Fonte Jr., the victim was identified as Ruel Matalog, married, a construction worker, and presently residing in Bgy. Pangao, Lipa City, Batangas

The suspect who fled quickly is a 39-year-old male, also a construction worker, and of Sitio Ibaba, Bgy. Bucal.

Radio operator P/SSg. Jaypee Ilagan received the incident report at 10:10 p.m.

Initial investigations showed that at about 9:00 p.m. (Aug. 28, 2022), the victim arrived at the suspect’s house and had an argument with his estranged wife, who is now living with the suspect.

The suspect witnessed what was happening between the two and confronted the victim.

Afterward, the suspect, who was armed with a bolo, quickly hacked the victim several times in the different parts of the body, causing his instantaneous death.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the Bgy. Bukal officials with the assistance of other personnel and responding investigators of the said station.

Batangas Provincial Forensic Unit, led by P/Lt. Col. Mylin Addag was requested to conduct a technical investigation at the crime scene while the victim’s remains were moved to San Fernando Funeral Homes in Bgy. Kumintang Ibaba, Batangas City for autopsy.
