6 teachers dismissed

BACOOR CITY, Cavite – At least six teaching personnel was temporarily removed from their posts at a public high school in Bacoor City here on Monday (August 29, 2022) after being involved in the alleged “sexual harassment” of some students.

According to the Department of Education (DepEd), they are conducting an in-depth investigation through the division office in Bacoor into the accusations of sexual abuse by teachers to students of the Bacoor National High School (NHS).

DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa described the allegations as “very disturbing news,” and added that they are looking into it closely.

“Upon inquiry, I was informed that the Schools Division Office (SDO) was made aware of these allegations of sexual harassment last week and that an investigation has already started and is currently underway,” said Poa.

Poa released the reaction after a viral post on Twitter said that students in the city’s local high school had come out to report the teachers abusing them.

In a lengthy Twitter thread, which has garnered thousands of likes and retweets, screenshots of alleged Facebook Messenger exchanges can be read showing teachers making “sexual advances” and other inappropriate comments to their students.

Poa said at least six teachers had been temporarily “relieved” of their teaching load pending a preliminary investigation. “We will continue to coordinate with the SDO and the Regional Office concerned.”

“We have a ‘zero-tolerance’ for any form of abuse in our schools,” added Poa.
