ELEVEN people were killed when Typhoon Jolina unleashed its wrath this week in Eastern Visayas, police reported on Thursday.

Seven of the bodies were found in the coastal waters of Santo Niño, Samar where the typhoon had its fourth landfall on Sept. 7.

The police identified the fatalities as Alejandro Solayao, Sonny Boy Ibayan, Joseph Imnas, and Benedicto de Paz, all from Tacloban City; Roy Carcellar from Daram, Samar; Danilo Organo, and a certain Ngula from Tarangnan, Samar.

Also, in Santo Niño, an island municipality, local authorities rescued 50 fishermen from different parts of the region.

In Tarangnan, Samar fisherman Ryan Jerusalem was found dead with a head injury as a piece of wood reportedly hit him while on his way home from fishing.

In Maasin City, Southern Leyte, Marcelo Lolo drowned while trying to retrieve a floating cottage that kept banging against the seawall when swept away by rough waters.

The victim was found to have sustained a serious head injury by personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard in Maasin City.

Mark Jhun Nierras, a fisherman from Daram, Samar was found dead floating at the rocky portion of the shore of Cabitun-an village in Daram, Samar.

Police said the victim and his four companions were on board their fishing boat which was hit by big waves. They jumped into the seawater and swam towards the shore for safety and noticed that Mark Jhun was missing.

In Catbalogan City, Bienvenido Marquez was found dead when his fishing vessel capsized due to rough seas.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has yet to come up with official reports on Typhoon Jolina’s casualties.

The typhoon left a trail of destruction as it crossed Samar Island on Sept. 6 and 7.

The storm made five landfalls in Samar with the first in Hernani, Eastern Samar on the night of Sept. 6.
