It’s heating up in the PVL

Lito CincoI WILL be in Laoag City by the time you are reading this piece, staying here for f8ve days to do a travel story among others.

But of course with Gintong Alay founder Mike Keon as city mayor, I will not pass up the opportunity to have face to face, one on ones with him on local sports primarily.

But I will reserve the stories for next week as I dwell again on my not-so-new favorite spectator sport, women’s volleyball.

Once again, I was at the live action last Sunday at Philsports for the featured match-up between two champion teams, Creamline and F2 Logistics.

And it proved to be one hell of a game , close sets all the way to the 5th and final set with F2, coming back from a 0-3 previous loss to Chery Tiggo at that, and literally snatching a victory from the jaws of defeat, down 1-2, tying it in the fourth set, and from a 12-14 deficit in the fifth set, won the game for its third victory and first loss for Creamline.

Transferee Myla Pablo delivered the points but Aby Marano provided the spirit, and now,, the team is tied at 3-1 with both Creamline and Chery Tiggo.

It was the exact opposite for Cherry Tiggo as PLDT shocked them last Tuesday, followed up Thursday by another victory by PLDT ,this time against Petro Gazz to enter the top 4 standings .

Choco Mucho pounced on Army for a 2-2 record, same as Petro Gazz, as for the other teams in contention, sorry but Cignal, Akari, and Army will not be in contention.

Just some thoughts, why does it seem every time F2 plays Creamline, they play as if their very lives are at stake, or is it a matter of pride for this team that owner Efren Uy believes will even get better?

And since defeats have different ways of affecting people, how does this regular loss affects Creamline in turn?

Creamline can beat any team in the PVL with less efort than other teams, but if it is a case of kontra pelo against F2, it may be affecting the minds of the players and subsequently the outcome of a game.

I really would like to see these two teams face each other in the finals, and if that game last Saturday attracted already a huge crowd, can you imagine if it were the championship series?
.Of course the other contending teams will have their own say in the matter, Chery Tiggo and Petro Gazz have both tasted success as champions, and now PLDT, are all capable of achieving their championship dreams in this conference.

Choco Mucho, I really do not understand this under achieving team, a very competitive line-up but where is the problem?

Is it the players themselves as some observe it to be?

Moreso as the team has already changed its coach.

A real dark horse would be PLDT, proven by the fact they beat Chery Tiggo and Petro Gazz already, Akari is a team in progress, Cignal, sorry, Army, I do not think it is out for the title, it cannot match the other teams in terms of resources available, but for the same reason, I admire the team for continuing to be there for their soldier- athletes.

On the individual side, if there is one player I am really impressed, and she is not a superstar, it is Djanel Cheng of Petro Gazz.

I look at Jia de Guzman as the current best setter, and I would put Djanel in the top 3.

A very solid player with sound fundamentals no airs, just does what she does best, make those perfect sets for her teammates.

For the result of yesterday’s main game between Creamline and Chery Tiggo, you know it, I don’t. But I will guess Creamline would have won it.
