MANILA Mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko presidential bet Isko Moreno lauded Church authorities for taking the initiative to hold a localized “Traslacion’ of the Black Nazarene this year instead of the traditional procession.

Moreno commended the decision announced by Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene better known as the Quiapo Church, saying localized Traslacion events will take the place of the Traslacion 2022 in order to avoid the usual procession which lasts for hours and is attended by millions every January 9th of the year.

The mayor said the devotees can still celebrate the Feast of the Black Nazarene while heeding the call of the Church authorities and through the events lined up by the Church from December 27 to January 8, 2022.

Meanwhile, Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna said the City of Manila has started holding the anticipated masses or ‘Simbang Gabi’ leading to Christmas eve at the Bonifacio Shrine beside the Manila City Hall.

The masses will be held every night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. under strict observance of the health protocols being mandated by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
