AGENTS of the Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) on Thursday arrested a Navotas City policeman for charges of violence against women and children (VAWC), PNP-IMEG Director Brigadier General Warren F. de Leon said.

In a report to PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said the suspect is assigned with the Navotas City Police Sub-Station 2 of the Northern Police District (NPD).

De Leon said that the suspect’s arrest was made on the strength of a warrant for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9262 or an act defining violence against women and their children and providing for protective measures for the victims issued by Judge Francis William Espinola of the Camiling, Tarlac Regional Trial Court Branch 68.

He said that members of the IMEG Counter-Intelligence Division, with the assistance of officers from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the NPD, served the warrant for the arrest of the suspect inside the Navotas Police Sub-Station 2 located along Governor Andres Pascual Street in Barangay San Roque past 9:00 p.m. Thursday.

De Leon said that the accused is particularly wanted for violation of Section 5 (1) of RA 9262, otherwise known as “causing mental or emotional anguish, public ridicule or humiliation to the woman or her child, including but not limited to, repeated verbal and emotional abuse, and denial of financial support or custody of minor children of access to the woman’s child/children.”

The accused policeman was taken to the IMEG headquarters in Camp Crame for documentation after being apprised of his constitutional rights.
