Hot logs seized in Kalinga

CAMP Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet — A transporter of illegally sawn lumber was intercepted at a checkpoint at Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga on Sunday.

Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) Director PBGen. Ronald Oliver Lee yesterday identified the arrested suspect as Ramon Libunao Rivera, 54, a resident of Dagupan Centro, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Kalinga Police Provincial Director, PCol. Davy Vicente M. Limmong reported that police operatives flagged down the Elf vehicle driven by the suspect after noticing that the vehicle was loaded with freshly cut sawn white lumbers.

A report said the arrest was made after he failed to show pertinent documents for 52 pieces of illegally sawn lauan lumber witha total of 624 board feet and a street value of P31,200.

Rivera and the vehicle used was brought to the Tabuk City Police Station for documentation and proper disposition while the confiscated logs were turned-over to DENR Tabuk City for administrative adjudication.
