Truck plows into ‘ayuda’ beneficiaries, 2 dead

TWO persons on Tuesday died when a dump truck plowed into a group of people waiting to receive their financial assistance from the local government in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

The fatalities were the dump truck driver Herminio Gerona, 57, and Analyn Somooc, a 54-year-old “ayuda” beneficiary.

Gerona was declared on arrival to the hospital after suffering from a heart attack while Somooc succumbed to severe rib fractrures.

Several others were also injured and were brought to the nearest hospital for treatment. They were Ronilo Navarro Jr., 31; Mario dela Rosa, 58; Mary Rose Eustaquio, 29, and Cecila Beramo, 57.

Somooc and the four others were among the group of people waiting for “ayuda” outside the Treasury Office in front of the City Hall on St. Ignacio St. in Bgy. Poblacion when struck by the truck driven by Gerona at 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday.

San Jose Del Monte assistant city administrator attorney Rizaldy Mendoza said the dump truck driver suffered a heart attack and lost control of the vehicle.
