DON’T look now, but the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is really out to lure more Filipinos to exercise their constitutional right of suffrage.

The poll body, chaired by George Erwin Garcia, wants to register three million new voters before the voter registration period ends September 30.

To ensure the success of its voter registration drives, the Comelec has been going beyond the corners of comfortable spaces in urban centers.

In fact, poll officials have set foot and held voter registration activities in communities they have never reached in the past.

Garcia said the poll body wants to hear the voices of our countrymen during the elections by registering as voters.

“Paano ka nga namang sumali sa pagpili ng mga lingkod-bayan kung hindi ka rehistradong botante?” a barangay official said.

“Let’s join the electoral process by registering as a voter,” he added.

The filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the May 2025 national and local elections is set first week of October, according to the Comelec.

The nation goes to the polls anew next year to elect 12 senators, more than 300 members of the House of Representatives and thousands of local government officials.

Thus, the Comelec deserves the all-out support of the public as it tries to lure more Filipinos to register as voters.
