Tugade lauded over swift action on port criminals
PASSENGERS thanked Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade for his immediate action to stop the criminality happening at the Batangas Port.
This was after the incidents of persistent exploitation to passengers before entering the pier such as pickpocketing, bribery and theft.
According to Tugade, the different kinds of crimes widely happen only outside the Yellow Pedestrian Gate of the port, where most of the victims were poor passengers.
Tugade immediately ordered Philippine Ports Authority general manager Jay Daniel Santiago to close the passageway to end crimes in the place.
Together with Asian Terminal Incorporated, the private operator of PPA at the Batangas Port, all entrance was transferred to the Main Gate to ensure the safety of all the passengers.
“Talamak sa lugar na pipilitin kang bumili ng panutsa na sobrang taas ang presyo na kahit ayaw ay napilitan na lamang akong bilihin dahil nakatutok ang kutsilyo sa tagiliran ko,” a passenger said.
