La Salle-Dasma, CEU arrange duel for NCRAA women’s crown

DE LA Salle University-Dasmariñas and Centro Escolar University will dispute the championship in the 30th NCRAA (National Capital Region Athletic Association) women’s basketball tournament at the Olivarez gym in Parañaque City.

The Dasmariñas-based Patriots brought down Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, 87-67, while the Mendiola-based Lady Scorpions pulled the rug from under Philippine Merchant Marine School, 80-74, in a pair of keenly-watched semifinal matches.

With the victories, the Tito Reyes-mentored Patriots and Mel Gador-coached Lady Scorpions booked their ticket to winner-take-all finals on Monday.

Six players, led by Eula Atienza, scored in double figures for the Patriots.

Atienza finished with a double-double performance of 17 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in 15 minutes of action.

Jayvee Gravador added 14 points, while Manicel Solomon and Jonalyn Bongalos contributed 12 points each.

The Patriots got 11 and 10 points from Kyla Talamayan and Valerie Gravador.

Jujelyn Yap led the losing effort for the Lady Vanguards of coach Ma. Theresa Magno with a double-double performance of 16 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in 20 minutes of action.

Arlyn Palad and Shekainah Paraiso added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Jerell Banih topscored for the Lady Scorpions with 15 points and seven rebounds in 23 minutes while Hannah Gumapo and Claire Tapint added 12 points each.

JJ Ferolino chipped in 10 points.

Bea Pesito scored 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in almost 40 minutes on the floor for coach Ralph Briones.

Chelsea Mesina and Ella Salvador added 14 and 12 points, respectively while Geneivere Sediego had 10 points.

In the juniors division, Immaculada Concepcion College overwhelmed Bestlink College of the Philippines, 96-61, while Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite rode on Keith Esusan’s hot hands to roll back Lyceum of the Philippines University- Laguna,73-61.

The 1-2 punch of CJ Managbanag and JM Corpuz led the Junior Blue Hawks of coach Ogie Gumatay with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Lorenzo Arellano had 12 points while Sean Herbon and Peononel Sacro added 10 points each.

Jonas Ocampo and JC Quinto led the junior Kalasag with 18 and 15 points, respectively for coach Edwin Punio.

Esusan scattered 28 points on 12-of-20 shooting while Johann Onoya added 13 points for the Dennis Rasing-mentored Cavite-based Junior Vanguards.

Lui Dapan paced the losing effort for Laguna-based junior Pirates with 13 points.

Lloys Vicente added 12 points.
