3 transporters of 66 piglets held for evading quarantine checkpoint

SINAIT, Ilocos Sur –Three persons carrying 66 piglets were nabbed after evading a PNP checkpoint in Bgy. Ballaigui, here.

Suspects Quirino Quinto, 25, owner of the piglets, businessman, of Brgy. Don Alejandro Quirologoco, Caoayan, Gregorio Medrano Jr., driver, 30, and Rowel Angeles, helper, 39, both of Brgy. Quezon, Cabugao, were were apprehended after a police chase.

Reports said that joint personnel of Provincial Animal Quarantine Office, and Sinait policemen apprehended the suspects who were on board an IIsuzu Elf Truck (PN: APA 3391) for violation of Provincial Ordinance No. 15-06 Series of 2015 ( An ordinance Amending sec 4,6,8, & 9 of the ordinance no. 2012 series of 2012 otherwise known as “Animal Quarantine ordinance of the Prov. of Ilocos Sur.”

Initial police investigation showed the suspects allegedly evaded the Provincial Animal Quarantine Checkpoint then took another route to transport the 66 piglets, prompting police to chase them.

The suspects together with the Elf Truck including the 66 piglets are now under the custody of Provincial Animal Quarantine for proper disposition. By MARIO SUPNAD
