Fire engulfs residential area in Cavite City

CAVITE CITY – Around 622 families have been displaced by a fire that razed a residential area in Barangay 22-A, 22M, and 28, Quadra, Cavite City, on Wednesday, April 26.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Cavite City said the fire broke out at 1:32 p.m. and reached the third alarm at 1:43 p.m. It was placed under control by 5:22 p.m. and declared fire out at 10:37 p.m.

According to Mayor Denver Chua, the displaced families are now in their temporary shelter at Ladislao Diwa Elementary School (LDES), and Biblical Church of Christ where they are provided with food, water, bedding, hygiene kits, and new portable toilets have also been installed for evacuees.

The City Health Office under Dr. Lino Barron set up a mobile clinic with on-duty doctors and nurses to address the evacuees’ health concerns.

While the City Social Welfare and Development under Rowena Andrade facilitated the meals of each family.

Chua also tapped the Office of the Vice Mayor to be the in-charge of the donation drive. He also thanked the Philippine Air Force (PAF) for helping to drop water at the fire site and all the fire volunteers all over Metro Manila and members of the BFP NCR (National Capital Region) and Cavite for responding to this fire incident.

Classes at LDES have been temporarily suspended until further notice.

According to the report gathered by the CSWD as of April 27, a total of 622 affected families are composed of 2,027 individuals.

609 families or 1,998 individuals were at LDES; Church of Christ, two families composed of 13 individuals; and outside the evacuation center, ten families composed of 16 individuals.

Cavite 1st District Congressman Jolo Revilla also announced the distribution of food packs and immediate financial assistance to the affected families in a meeting called by the Cavite City local chief executive.
