Faulty chargers

THE Philippines is now teeming with electric vehicles, particularly the highly-popular e-bikes and e-trikes.

This is understandable because more and more Filipinos purchase e-vehicles due to the rising prices of gasoline and other fossil fuels.

But saddening are reports that counterfeit and faulty e-vehicle chargers had caused several fires in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said authorized or legitimate chargers would automatically shutdown when e-vehicles are fully charged.

Counterfeit or fake chargers, on the other hand, usually emit smoke and then burst into flames when they are overcharged.

Earlier. the Metro Manila Counci banned e-bikes and e-trikes from plying major roads in the heavily-populated Metropolitan Manila area.

Government authorities, with the help of the public, ought to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the people throughout the year.

And we are all for this.
