ERJHS Alumni sportsfest set

AFTER an absence of three years due to the pandemic, the E. Rodriguez Jr. High School Alumni Sports Club will hold its basketball and volleyball competitions starting Sunday, April 16 at the Barangay N.S. Amoranto covered court in La Loma, Quezon City.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Cong. Arjo Atayde have been invited to attend the 9 a.m. opening ceremony, along with councilors and barangay and school officials.

The participating teams are 2019 champion Team 2000, Team 80s, Batch 89, Batch 93, Batch 94, Batch 96 and Batch 2000.

The ERJHS Alumni Sports Club is headed by Ed Andaya of Batch 81 as president; Neneng Gutierrez of Batch 73, Imee Gines of Batch 82, Robert Capistrano of Batch 94 and Oliric Lacsamana of Batch 2000 as vice-presidents; Janet Jimenez of Batch 85 as secretary; Ramon Ypil of Batch 84, treasurer; Bess Maghirang of Batch 84, auditor.and Melissa Cabalic and Gina de los Santos, PROs.

Zeny Castor of Batch 70 and well-known basketball coach Rene Baena are the advisers.

Last 2019, Team 2000 of playing coach Jerome Nell defeated Batch 90 in their championship game to clinch the title.

Tournament director Albert Andaya and technical committee heads Jo Aldana and Richard Nell said the participating teams in basketball will play a single-round elimination with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals.

The top two teams will meet in the winner-take-all championship.

The month-long tournament is also supported by Brgy N.S. Amoranto, headed by Arturo “Ato”De Guzman, Brgy Paang Bundok under Lawrence Tiglao and William “Maca” Chua of Ping Ping Lechon.
