SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez yesterday commended President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for the remarkable accomplishments achieved during his two-day state visit to Brunei, which have set the stage for strengthened bilateral relations and enhanced economic cooperation between the two nations.

The Speaker praised President Marcos for his successful diplomatic engagements and for securing key agreements that are poised to benefit the Philippines’ economic and strategic interests.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s state visit to Brunei has been a resounding success, marked by significant achievements that will undoubtedly bolster our nation’s economic and diplomatic standing,” said Speaker Romualdez.

“The House of Representatives extends its heartfelt congratulations to the President for his adept leadership and vision in fostering closer ties with Brunei,” added Romualdez, leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.

During the visit, President Marcos held high-level meetings with Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other key government officials, resulting in the signing of several important agreements.

On the first day of the state visit, three Memorandum of Agreements were signed including efforts on boosting tourism cooperation between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam; on Mutual Recognition of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) certificates; and on maritime cooperation.

Likewise, Letter of Intent (LOI) was also signed to renew memorandum of understanding on food security and agricultural cooperation.

During the Philippine Business Forum on Wednesday, the Memorandum of Understanding signed by ASEAN Business Advisory Council – Philippines and Brunei, and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brunei Darussalam (NCCI) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) were also presented to President Marcos, Jr.

“The agreements forged during this state visit are a testament to the strong and enduring relationship between the Philippines and Brunei,” Speaker Romualdez continued. “They open up new avenues for collaboration, particularly in trade and investment, which are crucial for our country’s economic growth and development.”

President Marcos also engaged with Brunei’s business community, presenting the Philippines as a prime investment destination with vast opportunities in sectors such agriculture, energy, technology, and tourism. His efforts were met with positive responses from Brunei business leaders, who expressed keen interest in exploring investment opportunities in the Philippines.

“By promoting our country as a premier investment hub, President Marcos is not only attracting foreign capital but also paving the way for job creation and economic prosperity for our people,” Speaker Romualdez emphasized.

Speaker Romualdez highlighted the importance of this diplomatic milestone, noting that it reflects the government’s commitment to building strong international partnerships and advancing the nation’s economic agenda.

“We are proud of President Marcos’ achievements during this state visit, which reinforce our collective efforts to achieve sustainable development and improve the quality of life for all Filipinos,” Speaker Romualdez concluded.

Earlier, Speaker Romualdez reiterated the commitment of the House of Representatives to continue to work closely with the executive branch to ensure the successful realization of the initiatives of President Marcos, Jr. for a better life for all Filipinos.

Following his state visit to Brunei, President Marcos is set to participate in the International Institute for Strategic Studies-Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on May 31 to June 1. President Marcos, Jr. will deliver the keynote address during the opening dinner of the dialogue on May 31.
