SAVI Davison scored 21 points as PLDT dominated Farm Fresh, 25-9, 25-13, 25-21, to gain a piece of the lead in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Ynares Center in Antipolo yesterday.

Davison was efficient in offense with 17-of-30 attacks, as well as in defense with three blocks and seven receptions to power the High Speed Hitters to their fifth victory in six matches.

By securing a convincing result, PLDT moved in a tie with defending champion Creamline on top of the standings.

Earlier, Galeries Tower posted its first winning streak in club history with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 victory over Strong Group.

The High Speed Hitters off-season acquisitions shone, as Majoy Baron had two blocks and two service aces to finish with 11 points, while Kim Fajardo tossed in 13 excellent sets.

Baron, who together with Fajardo is a former F2 Logistics standout, expressed satisfaction with her seamless integration into coach Rald Ricafort’s system.

“It’s super fun, kasi parang ang dali ng work namin. Binibigay lahat ang mga information at kami naman sumusunod lang sa system ni coach. Nagbubunga naman ang lahat ng pinaghihirapan,” said Baron.

Carrying the momentum of their five-set escape that snapped Choco Mucho’s four-match winning run last Tuesday, PLDT controlled the one-hour, 17-minute contest in a performance that reflected its character and resolve honed through its recent experiences against the league’s top contenders.

While the Foxies put up a gallant stand in the third set, the High Speed Hitters never wavered, flashing their endgame savvy then Davison finished off their opponents with crisp back-to-back crosscourt kills.

“We were able to bring our momentum from our last game, mas nakilala namin ung team namin na nagka-character dahil sa experience namin against the Flying Titans,” said Baron.

Farm Fresh, which was led by Cait Viray’s 11 points, slipped to 2-4 card.

Graze Bombita, the Highrisers’ biggest off-season signee, emerged as the beacon of leadership and firepower from the second set onward, finishing with 16 points on 15-of-28 attacks.

Bombita attributed their decisive 76-minute triumph to Galeries Tower’s relentless efforts in training, acknowledging each teammate’s courageous contributions to stepping up in crucial moments.

“It’s a collective team effort, yung mga weaknesses namin ay pinupunan ng iba (each of us fills in where the others may have weaknesses),” said Bombita, who also provided inspiration and experience to her young teammates.

“Pinagkukuhanan namin ng lakas ng loob ang bawat isa (We drew strength from one another),” she added.

The Highrisers’ two victories halfway through the single round preliminaries already doubled their tally in their maiden campaign in the Second All-Filipino Conference last year.

Following its come-from-behind triumph over Capital1 in Santa Rosa, Laguna a week ago Galeries Tower was able to post its first-ever winning streak in dominant fashion.

“Una, thank you Lord. Pangalawa, yung mga nauna kasing games namin medyo challenging. Then sa amin na mga coaches, talagang pini-figure out namin kung ano pa yung mga kulang. So far, so good naman. Nagrerespond ng maayos yung mga players dun sa adjustments na ginagawa namin” said Highrisers coach Lerma Giron.

Galeries Tower will take a long break before squaring off against top contender Choco Mucho on April 2.

“We need to intensify our preparations for the Choco Mucho match. Kailangan na tyagain at pagtrabahuhan (It’s imperative that we put in the hard work and dedication),” said Bombita.

Strong Group, which fell to 0-6, turned to Sheeka Espinosa, who had seven kills, six digs and four receptions, and Dolly Verzosa, who contributed six attacks.
