A 3rd public school building built by the local police for indigenous tribesmen in Davao City has been inaugurated by local officials led by Police Regional Office 11 Director Brigadier General Filmore B. Escobal, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

The integrated school located in Sitio Sandunan in Barangay Tamugan, Marilog District, Davao City would benefit young members of the Matigsalug tribe who have long been suffering from the lack of a school facility in their community, the nearest school of which is located kilometers away.

Construction of the school with two classrooms started last December and was completed thru the effort of personnel from the PRO11 “Revitalized-Pulis sa Barangay” or R-PSB headed by its program director, PRO11 Deputy Regional Director for Administration, Brig. Gen. Edgar Alan O. Okubo.

The R-PSB officers and men were also joined by local residents in building the facility thru the old ‘Bayanihan’ spirit. Also instrumental in the construction of the school building were real estate broker Joemecilo Salise and couple Nelson and Jennifer Chua, said Okubo.

Education official Rommel Amao, local barangay captain Diomedes dela Cruz and some 20 tribal leaders led by Bae Aida Seisa were also present during the inauguration of the facility.

According to Brig. Gen. Escobal, members of the Matigsalug Tribe have been clamoring for the construction of their own school over the past 20 years.

Their wish finally came into fruition when the PRO11 launched its R-PSB program aimed at helping residents of geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas long being taken advantage of by the New People’s Army in Southern Mindanao.

Brig. Gen. underscored the need for young children to get the right education and help them fight poverty and become productive Filipinos as they mature and build their own families.

It was the 3rd school to be built by the R-PSB in Davao region, the first being the Sualn R-PSB Integrated School located in Sitio Sualon in Bgy. Tamugan, Marilog District followed by the Malita R-PSB Integrted School situated in Bgy. Malita in Davao Occidental.
