Cop-prime suspect in Camilon case skips Senate probe

THE police officer tagged as the prime suspect in the disappearance of beauty queen Catherine Camilon yesterday failed to attend the Senate investigation into the case.

In a letter to Sen. Ronald dela Rosa, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, Police Major Allan de Castro said he cannot present himself in the investigation because he has to attend to his wife who is 8-months pregnant.

According to De Castro, his wife is experiencing pains.

Dela Rosa, a former chief of the Philippine National Police, considered the excuse as an alibi.

“Hindi naman siya nanganak. Bakit hindi siya puwede pumunta? Di rason na buntis ang asawa mo. Ako noon, tatlo ang anak ko, ipinanganak na wala ako. Nandoon ako sa bundok nag-ooperate laban sa NPA. ‘Yun pa buntis pa, hindi pa naman nanganak. Very flimsy alibi,” Dela Rosa said.

“If you are listening right now Maj. De Castro, you should come here. Hindi ‘yan rason na buntis ang asawa mo,,” said the panel chair.

“Hintayin nila ‘yung subpoena and pag-isnabin pa rin nila ‘yung subpoena, hintayin nila ‘yung warrant of arrest,” the senator added.

De Castro’s driver-bodyguard, Jeffrey Magpantay, was also a no-show at the Senate hearing.

Magpantay said he could not attend because his vaccine cards are missing and that his lawyer is sick.

On October 16 last year, Camilon’s sister, Chin-Chin took to social media to ask for help in locating Catherine.

The cop suspect was reportedly the last person Camilon was supposed to meet on the day of her disappearance on October 12, 2023.

De Castro, who was dismissed from his post last January 16 after an investigation found out that he had an extra marital affair with Camilon, denied the allegations.
