PRESIDENT-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. appears to have his cards close to his heart when it comes to other possible members of his official family.

Marcos had earlier named his running mate, outgoing Davao City mayor and presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, as secretary of the Department of Education.

The young Marcos from Ilocos Norte and Leyte also appointed Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., Bienvenido “Benny” Laguesma, Susan Ople and Victor Rodriguez to the Cabinet.

Abalos will head the Department of the Interior and Local Government, while Laguesma and Ople head the Department of Labor and Employment and Department of Migrant Workers, respectively.

Rodriguez, on the other hand, is the executive secretary or the so-called “Little President.”

Like other well-meaning people, we share the view of political observers that President Marcos is on the “right track” in naming competent individuals to his Cabinet.

The incoming President, who is set to assume office at 12 noon on June 30, said “allow me the luxury of a few more days,” adding “slowly, we’re beginning to to fill positions.”

“Tama lang na kinakausap muna ni Pangulong Marcos ang mga nominado para malaman niya ang kani-kanilang mga ideya at programa.” according to a Bongbong supporter.

Anyway, there’s still enough time before June 30, when the elected national and local government officials, headed by BBM and Duterte-Carpio, are sworn into office.

Thus, let’s give President Marcos sufficient time to select members of his official family.
