A lawmaker welcomed the decision of the Commission on Elections to move the date for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Paranaque City Rep. Gus Tambunting expressed gratitude to Comelec for heeding to his call to reschedule the filling date.

According to Tambunting, the decision to move the COC filing period from July to August is a welcome development, and we believe that it will help ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.

“We understand and acknowledge the concerns raised by the Comelec regarding the original July schedule, and we appreciate their efforts to consider the welfare of the voters and candidates,” he said.

“We recognize that a prolonged political season may have resulted in voter fatigue and disinterest, posed a threat to peace and order, and given undue advantage to some candidates,” he added.

By rescheduling the COC filing, the Comelec has shown its commitment to upholding a fair and credible election.

The solon commended Comelec Chairman George Garcia and the rest of the Comelec commissioners for their swift action in response to the concerns raised by various stakeholders.

“As we look forward to the upcoming Barangay and SK elections, I encourage our fellow citizens to actively participate and exercise their right to vote wisely. Let us continue to work together towards a peaceful and successful electoral process,” he said.
