A total of three persons were killed, including the female septuagenarian and her daughter-in-law, while the old woman’s son was wounded when the jobless man went into a shooting rampage Wednesday evening in Caloocan City.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Ruben Lacuesta said Lourma Orbe, 72, widow, her daughter-in-law Angelica Orbe, 39, both residents of 299 Gen. Luna St. Brgy. 10 died on the spot from bullet wounds in their bodies while Mary Jane Abary, 48, of 297 Gen. Angelica’s husband and son of Lourma, Christian Orbe, 38, is still under observation at the CCMC after sustaining bullet wound in the body.

Elements of Caloocan Police and policemen from Northern Police District (NPD) who responded to the crime scene were able to arrest the suspect identified as William Jaymee Sy, 46, of 296 Gen. Luna St., after his cousin, Barangay Chairman Jerome Soriano, was able to persuade him to surrender.

Investigation showed that at around 6:40 p.m., the suspect, while armed with 12-gauge shotgun, caliber .9mm Glock pistol, and caliber .38 revolver went at the corner of Gen. Luna and 5th St. Brgy. 10 and alternately shot his firearms indiscriminately, hitting his neighbors in their bodies.

After the incident, the suspect went inside his house and allegedly planned to engage responding lawmen in a shootout but his cousin, Chairman Soriano, tried to pacify and persuade him to surrender.

In a radio interview, Soriano said his cousin was ill and suffering from severe depression, after his parents successively died while his two siblings decided to settle abroad.

Col. Lacuesta said aside from three firearms, responding policemen also recovered from the suspect a folding knife, one box of ammunition, and a mobile phone.
