TWO suspected members of a group engaged in robbery and motorcycle (MC) theft were killed in a shootout with police officers in Quezon City after forcibly taking a motorcycle driven by a woman early Monday.

Police investigators said they recovered a police clearance under the name of Christopher De La Cruz on one of the slain suspects.

A report from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) showed that at about 1:40 a.m., March 7, 2022, the victim identified as Althea Apostol was on her way home on board a black Honda Click motorcycle and was traversing along IBP Road corner Kalinisan Street, Bgy. Batasan Hills, when 3 suspects onboard 2 separate motorcycles suddenly appeared and blocked her path.

2 of the suspects forcibly took her motorcycle at gunpoint then fled towards the direction of Commonwealth Avenue.

Police investigation further disclosed that elements of Police Station 6 (PS-6) onboard a mobile patrol car were conducting an anti-criminality operation in the area when they were approached by the victim.

The policemen alarmed all personnel of PS-6, QCPD to conduct dragnet operations after hearing the statement of the victim.

Acting on the matter, PS-6 personnel immediately conducted a follow-up operation and intercepted the suspects that matched the description given by the victim.

The lawmen approached the duo, however, the latter sensed their presence and consecutively fired at the said operatives who have no option but to defend themselves.

Thus, having no other recourse, the police operatives returned fire to the 2 armed suspects.

After the exchange of gunfire, the lawmen rushed both suspects to East Avenue Medical Center but they were declared dead upon arrival.
