13 persons held in Ecija illegal tupada, pusoy operations

SAN JOSE CITY — At least 13 persons were nabbed in separate anti-illegal gambling operations in this city and Quezon, Nueva Ecija on Wednesday.

In this city, police head Lt. Col. Palmyra Guardaya said eight of the suspects were collared during an illegal tupada operations in Bgy. Sto. Niňo 3rd at 1:50 p.m.

Arrested were Joshua Payumo, 22; Paolo Collado, 19, Al Daryl Jay Marso, 26; Ronnie De Guzman, 54, all of Zone 1, Bgy. San Isidro, LUpao; Frankie Mar Natividad, 30, Crisanto Sta. Ana, 33, both of Pagkakaisa, Bgy. Sapang Kawayan, Science City of Muňoz; Francis Bautista, 32, and Cedric Ducusin, 24, both of Zone 3, Bgy. Sto. Niňo 3rd.

Seized from their possession were bet money totaling P3,140 and three fighting cocks.

In Quezon town, provincial police head Col. Rhoderick B. Campo said the five other arrested suspected illegal gamblers were caught red-handed while playing the illegal card game called “pusoy kuragan” in Purok 6, Bgy. Ilog Baliwag at 4:20 p.m.

The five nabbed suspects were identified as house owner Mary Jane Llanto, 46, widow; Bryan De Guzman, 33; Angel Napuran, 44; Feliciano Lopez, 61, and Jose Basa, 57, all of Purok 6, Bgy. Ilog Baliwag.

Police confiscated some P1,100 in bet money and a deck of playing cards.

Separate charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287 were slapped against the suspects.
